Looks like there was a Ripley's Believe It or Not fan involved here. Ripley published a book of odd tombstones and graveyards some 40-odd years ago, and one of the memorable ones was a stone with the inscription "I Told You I Was Sick".
I know I saw this inscription on a marker in Lubbock, TX when we attended my grandmother's burial. Wonder how many there are out there!
Spike Milligan has "I told you I was ill", but in Gaelic.
